What can’t go into my skip bin?
We do not accept hazardous waste. If these items are placed in the Bin, we will be unable to
collect it.
Liquids
Liquid paint, chemicals, solvents, petrols, motor oil, cooking oil etc cannot be placed into the bin.
Please note even if they are in a sealed container they cannot be placed
in the bin as there is a possibility they will split open or leak when
being transported.
Containers with paint, motor & cooking oil may
be placed beside the skip so we can remove them safely. Solvents and petrols are considered hazardous and cannot be taken.
What can be put into a skip bin?
General waste:
Our skip bins will take most things from around your home including timber off cuts, furniture, appliances, books, bicycles, toys, general junk, steel etc that is not hazardous or a liquid.
Green & Brown waste:
Our skip bins will take green waste as listed;
- Grass clippings
- Flower cuttings
- Hedge trimmings
- Coffee grounds
- Tea bags and tea leaves
- Manure
- Weeds
Our skip bins will take brown waste as listed:
- Torn newspapers/cardboard
- Egg cartons
- Tree prunings (branches)
- Dry leaves
- Bark/untreated sawdust
Hard fill / clean fill:
Our skip bins will hold the following clean fill:
Asphalt (cured)
Bricks
Cement and fibre cement products
Ensure that the product does not contain asbestos,
which is unacceptable
Ceramics
Concrete (unreinforced)
No metal or other attached material
Road, sub-base
Soils, rock, gravel, sand, clay etc
Must be free from contamination and less than 10%
organic material
Tiles Clay, concrete or ceramic.
What is hazardous waste?
Hazardous waste is any waste that is potentially dangerous to health or the environment, or can cause damage to property. This includes:
- Explosives such as fireworks, ammunition and marine emergency flares
- Flammable goods such as petrol, kerosene,
oil and some types
of paint - Corrosive items such as strongly acidic and caustic cleaning fluids
- Chemically reactive waste such as pool chemicals
- Toxic waste such as garden sprays, rat poison, solvents and various cleaners
- Environmentally toxic items such as oil, paint and all batteries.
